story

At thirteen, Misty lives in a silent world enriched by her imagination until cochlear implants turn a new chapter. When her stepfather Tom brings her home to Cape Gully after a year at a school for the hard of hearing, she hears the sounds of her coastal town in Maine: the whooshing wind, rumbling waves, cooing seagulls.

But the strangest sound of all comes from inside her room:

“Misty Brown, do you copy?”

Crackling through her hearing devices comes the voice of General Joe Cannon, leader of a race of tiny invisible people that once lived in her floorboards. Why—and where—have his people fled?

Have they lost the fight against their sworn enemy, a genocidal race intent on ruling the Invisible world? Or are the Dustfolk secretly mounting a resistance?

Transmitting to her implants, the General tells her what her eyes will not show her—that her quiet, humble home may be the last bastion of a civilization under siege, losing the fight for survival. While the human world demands Misty’s sanity, the Dustfolk need her help; it is up to her to bring them back together.

She will not be alone in her mission. Soon meets Archie Wood, a plucky and loyal friend of unbridled vision. Embroiled in a war they cannot see, the two embark on an adventure that will teach them to face life’s hardest challenges.
